2Five Ready for Lift-Off

The new Sun Mountain 2Five golf bag is now shipping. 2Five is the lightest, full-featured golf bag on the market weighing in at the scant two and a half pounds. We were able to keep the weight so low thanks to the use of ultra-lightweight and durable fabrics like those used in mountaineering tents, carbon-fiber legs, and high strength-to-weight plastics. 2Five is available in 11 different colors at $219.99.

To put 2 ½ lbs. into perspective, that’s about the same weight as 3 cans of the beverage of your choice, or 2 wedges, or a pair of golf shoes. When you lift up the 2Five, it’s more like lifting off as the bag seems to launch off the ground.

As one might imagine, building the lightest weight, full-featured golf stand bag on the market requires meticulous attention to detail. Some of these details on 2Five are:

• ultra-lightweight and durable 70 denier fabrics like those used in outdoor equipment applications such as mountaineering tents
• super light, highly durable carbon fiber legs instead of the normal aluminum legs
• high strength-to-weight plastic top and bottom

Golf Push Cart versus Pull Carts

The question: “What is the difference between a golf push cart and a golf pull cart?” came up in a discussion the other day. Once recovered from the ‘really?!’ look of surprise it was decided that maybe others had this question, too.

So, golf push cart vs golf pull cart. One obvious difference is that a push cart is pushed and, you guessed it, a pull cart is pulled. The biggest difference in the products is the number of wheels. The traditional pull cart, or trolley as they’re called in the UK, is a two-wheeled cart used to carry one’s golf clubs around the course. Golf push carts added an extra wheel to allow it to be pushed, and then later generations sometimes added a fourth wheel.

The purpose is the same, to carry the weight of the clubs so the golfer doesn’t have to.

The two-wheeled pull carts were the only option for decades. In the 1990’s the founder and owner of Sun Mountain Sports, Rick Reimers, saw someone jogging with a baby in a three-wheeled jog stroller and thought, “I wonder how that would work for golf?”

Well, it worked quite well as a matter of fact. Pushing is way easier than pulling and is less taxing on the shoulder muscles, muscles better used on the swing than on pulling a cart.

ClubGlider Golf Travel Bag Review

An internet search for Sun Mountain ClubGlider golf travel bag versus Club Glove revealed this review –

The article continues:

“Seldom do I become so excited with a piece of golf equipment as with Sun Mountain’s ClubGlider four-wheeled travel golf bag carrier. Unlike other golf inventions, which may promise to shave a stroke or two off your game, the ClubGlider actually improves your life. I often travel by air and have lugged my golf bag to all points in the US and many abroad. While I love playing new courses, I dread struggling with transporting my golf clubs on long walks in and around airports. No matter how lightly I pack my golf travel bag, the strain on my forearm, shoulders, and back in bending over, lifting, and dragging my bag and all begins to take its toll long before I even arrive at my destination or hit a shot. No more, my days of drudgery are over with Sun Mountain’s ClubGlider to the rescue.

My golf travel equipment has evolved from the canvas bag to the heavy, but durable plastic carry cases such as SKB makes and then gravitated to the lighter, heavy-duty fabric wheeled ones that Club Glove makes. All have served me well, but my ClubGlider is worlds ahead of the competition!”

Golf Bag Review: Sun Mountain versus OGIO, Nike, Callaway

Golf forums are full of people asking each other to compare and contrast products. One recent golf cart bag review showed Sun Mountain versus OGIO, Sun Mountain versus Nike and Sun Mountain versus Callaway to name a few.

In this review the cart bags from Sun Mountain, OGIO and Nike all received the top grade of A+.

The review compared the bags based upon price, club dividers, storage and functionality, and features.

About the price of the Sun Mountain C-130 golf cart bag the review said, “The bag is almost a steal.”

About full-length divider, storage and functionality and features, the review said. “FIFTEEN (15) full length dividers and all the features you need. Love the molded handles on the top to help maneuver the bag.”

According to the review, the “bad” of the bag was comparatively small number of pockets and that the putter well isn’t fully separate. Upon review you see that the word ‘comparatively’ is key. The Nike bag was listed as having 19 pockets versus Sun Mountain C-130’s nine pockets. It’d be interesting to compare actual storage volume in these pockets. We’re confident you can fit everything you need and many, many things you don’t need in our C-130. After all, we borrowed the name from the cargo plane of the same name. And, the C-130 putter well is in fact a separate club division from the other 14 full-length dividers and positioned on the spine of the bag so easiest to access when the bag is on a cart.

Best Golf Bags 2015 / 2016

According to Golf Datatech, Sun Mountain is the #1 golf bag company in the country so it stands to reason that many of the best selling golf bags for 2015 / 2016 are Sun Mountain bags.

Golf Datatech’s ranking is based upon the quantifiable factor of sales. Golf Digest Hot List, on the other hand,  is a more subjective, qualitative ranking based upon the expert opinions of a panel of highly regarded golf equipment writers.

Some of the top rated golf bags for 2015 recently recognized on the Hot List include the Sun Mountain Three 5, H2NO waterproof and Front 9 golf carry bags, the C-130golf  cart bag, and the XCR hybrid golf bag.

Every year since 2007 the Hot List has recognized the Sun Mountain C-130 as a best golf cart bag. Recent award winners are the C-130 cart bag with 14 individual club dividers and the new C-130 7-way with just seven club dividers. Both models offer sturdy top handles for ease in picking up the bag and forward-facing pockets so all pockets are accessible when on the cart. C-130 also offers a hidden cart-strap channel tunnel so the cart strap goes through the bag and behind the pockets instead of crushing or blocking access to the pockets. Some prefer 14-way tops, some don’t. Now both options are available. As well as a C-130 model with a stand for cart-golfers who like a stand bag for the practice range.

Several Sun Mountain bags were recognized as the best golf carry / stand bags. The ultra-lightweight Front 9 carry bag has made the Hot List the last two years. Golf Digest said, “This small bag earns high marks for performing big. The top is flared to make it easier to pull clubs out and put them back.”

Along with the C-130 cart bag, the Sun Mountain Three 5 carry bag has been a regular on the top-sellers list and in the Hot List. For the 2016 Three 5 the writers at Golf Digest said, “The increased mobility of the strap allows you to put it on and take it off with ease. The top of this light bag was also updated: there’s a slight flare at the top to make it easier to put clubs in.”

Sun Mountain’s line of waterproof H2NO golf bags remains popular as well. Long the top-selling bag in Europe, more and more Americans are appreciating the benefit of having a waterproof golf bag. The H2NO Lite was awarded Hot List Gold, there is also a H2NO Lite with a 14-way top and a cart bag model. For even lighter weight, try the H2NO Ultra Lite.

XCR is a new bag for 2016. Much like the C-130 S, XCR is a cart bag with legs. As Golf Digest said, “So you like to ride in a cart, but you still want to be able to take your bag to the range without it falling down. The solution: a cart bag with a stand. This bag is built to fit in your cart, but it has a stand, too. “

ClubGlider Technology Expands to Luggage

ClubGlider® revolutionized the golf travel bag with the introduction of extendable legs that support all of the weight. That same technology is now being applied to a line of wheeled-luggage that includes a suitcase and a carry-on. ClubGlider Suitcase offers the same ease of use as the golf travel bag thanks to the extendable leg that supports 100% of the weight and then simply retracts away for travel. The suitcase is constructed with the same highly durable, ballistic-style nylon as the ClubGlider Meridian golf travel bag. The ClubGlider Carry-On coordinates with the suitcase and is sized to fit in airplane overhead bins. Both pieces are available now at $349.99 for the suitcase and $239.99 for the carry-on.

The SandTrap Reviews Sun Mountain’s Reflex Golf Push Cart

A writer from SandTrap.com took the new Sun Mountain Reflex golf push cart out for a test drive and filed a nice report. This writer’s experience with other Sun Mountain push carts – Speed Cart, Micro-Cart and MC-3 – worked their way into this review, too, which makes it even more enlightening for the reader.

The primary purpose of a golf push cart is to carry the weight of the clubs and allow for an easy, ergonomic push around the course. Engineering the carts to be lightweight and fold up easily and compactly for transport to and from the course greatly enhanced the popularity of push carts. Looking like a piece of athletic equipment removed any possible stigma long-ago associated with the ole’ two-wheeled trolleys.

The writer of this review spent much of his review talking about the small folded size of the Reflex, the ease with which is opens and folds, and the stability of the cart on the course.

Here are some highlights of what the writer said:

Golfweek says Golf Push Carts are ‘Cool’

The May 13 issue of Golfweek magazine’s TBX (Toy Box Extra) included a story about the continuing rise in popularity of golf push carts. The headline read “A Big Push in Popularity” and the article said that push carts are becoming ‘cool’ and showing strong market growth.

The writer, James Achenbach, continued saying, “….these products bear little resembles to the two-wheeled pull carts of yore. ….they are attracting a whole new audience of health-conscience players who want to walk.”

Our very own founder and owner Rick Reimers said, “Push carts continue to grow in popularity. The first buyers 15 years ago tended to be the more mature golfers and every year since we see more and more younger players appreciating the benefits of using a push cart. As a matter of fact, in addition to the use on the junior golf tour and at the collegiate level, there are over 100 Sun Mountain push carts at the inaugural U.S. Amateur four-ball tourney this week.”

The story included Sun Mountain’s newest, smallest and lightest golf push cart, Reflex. See the whole story here.

Other push carts in our 2015 line-up include: the Speed Cart V1 Sport, MC-3 and the golf bag and cart in one, Combo cart.
